In 1861 he enlisted in Captain Edward Williams, Company (I) 12th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. He was shot through the groin at the Battle of Shiloh, April 6th. 1862. Wounded again in the leg at Battle of Stones River. Being a true supporter of Colonel Russell, he joined the 20th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment Company B, from McLemoresville. He served gallantly under Colonel Russell through the duration of the war. Surrendered May 9, 1865 Gainesville, Alabama . He passed on in 1917. He was a resident of Shady Grove and Atwood Tennessee and a member of the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, Shady Grove, Tennessee. Robert M. Vawter
